Hey guys, sorry for not updating until now but we STILL don’t have internet. We just got back from the craziest night. The student bureau of our university organizes these massive parties at clubs every few weeks. Last night was the first one of the year. It was in this weird club in the Latin Quarter called Wagg haha that was more of like an underground cave! After a little hassling from the bouncers we got in. It was so fun and the music was great. We danced until 3 and then decided we should probably get going ( Heather and I have French class at 9 am!). So we took a cab since the metros stop working all the way back to our apartment. To get into apartments in paris you have to enter a code at the main door.We entered the code a million times but the door wouldn’t budge. Our apartment is this ancient historical apartment that used to be used by nobles. Theres even a stable in the back for horses! The doors are huge and ancient and apparently can be locked from the inside so that even if you press the codes correctly they won’t work. So here we are, 4 girls stuck outside in the streets of paris at 3 am all shoving as hard as we can at this ancient door. After a while of panicking, pushing and laughing at the whole situation we started to wake up the neighbors across the street. We tried to be as quiet as possible but pushing an ancient door as hard as you can is VERY noisy. Finally after screaming curse words at us in French this one guy came out and said he would call the police on us if we didn’t stop- which we were fine with because at this point we needed the polices help. When we mentioned this he started screaming at us about how completely rude we were in very fast French until all the other neighbors woke up and came out to see what was going on. During all of this we would have called our coordinator Myriam but she SPECIFICALLY told us at a meeting we had in April that we are not to call her at any time during the night unless we are dying.
Someome asked what if we are stuck outside the building and she said that it was not her problem and that we should find a hotel. After a few more people started yelling at us and we figured screw it, we should probably call her. Myriam is a nice person but very strict about how she is not our babysitter and how American students are such babies and don’t know how to fend for themselves so this was the call from hell. We woke her up and she suggested we go to the nearest police station. After walking for miles we thought we finally found it- to our surprise it was not a police station but the national guard who quickly said he could not help. All of a sudden we saw a cab zooming by, jumped in and decided our best bet was to find a hotel. The cab driver was nice but kept telling us that nothing would be open. Apparently in Paris hotels close by midnight and none of the open ones we found would take all four of us for some reason. 45 mins later we came across this shabby little hotel in an alley with the lights on. We rang the doorbell, woke up the concierge and 170 euros later, we were all in bed.
I finally registered for classes which was a total mess- we arrived at the computer lab 2 hours early, picked out our classes and waited anxiously for 3 o clock on the dot to be able to register. Finally, the welcome program helper guy goes- alright 30 seconds left.... and we all have our hands on the mouse ready to click...GO! so we all start clicking away like crazy trying to pick our classes when it all starts going wrong. All the computers kept saying ERREUR ERREUR and wouldnt let us register. So we're all sitting there, not being able to register as classes fill up and close right before our eyes! We were all screaming at the welcome program coordinator to help us but he didnt know what was going on and was like " oh just wait- it'll work eventually and you guys can just take whatever classes are left!" which left everyone super pissed off so finally i go IS THIS WORKING FOR ANYONE?? and everyone is like NO!!!!! and almost start a revolt until finally this one geeky guys is like yes its working for me and he explained to us how to do it. By that point all the good classes had filled up so this is what i ended up with: ( random, really random i know!)
